Where did the time go?
This year certainly did not go as planned. High on the successes of 2024, I signed up for twice as many vendor events, which required twice as much product and effort. Since a lot of the shows were craft fairs that required at least some handmade products, I spent a lot of the spring and summer making jewelry and knick knacks to sell alongside the books. I enjoy crafting, but it’s getting hard on the hands and eats up a lot of time I’d rather spend writing and editing. It sta

End of May Already?
Boy, howdy, has it been a busy few months!! Things are really starting to happen over here at The House of Chaos! Between writing, producing an anthology, my design projects, and reading through novel submissions, there hasn’t been a dull moment. Thought I’d take a moment to force myself to breathe, and catch you up on everything that has been happening in my little goblin-y corner of the world. Pop-up market, Calftown Cafe From June 2024 to January 2025, Chaos and Ink appear

Contemporary Subgenres, Part Two
Welcome back for Part 2 of Fantasy Subgenres. I’m going to mix it up a bit and start with my favorite subgenre. Why save the best for last when you can have it now? Dark Fantasy: For When Magic Gets Spooky Dark fantasy is where magic sheds its sparkly facade and gets a little… sinister. This subgenre delves into the shadowy, dangerous side of the fantastical, blending horror and fantasy to create worlds that are as chilling as they are captivating. Think cursed spells, haunt

Creatures of the Night: Ghosts
It’s Spooky Season!! My favorite time of year. Cooler temperatures, a smorgasbord of hot drinks and tasty treats, scary tales, and fun costumes. What’s not to love? As I go through the seasonal offerings of my favorite streaming sites, I’m reminded of how common certain scary creature are across cultures. Every region has their own version of the vampire, shape-changer, and ghosts. They represent innate fears which are indelibly human. Despite the many differences from countr

Adventures in Self Publishing: Episode 1
My book has been available for sale for 12 days now and I felt it was a good time to reflect on how it’s going, where it’s going, and what I’ve learned. Formatting and uploading to the ‘zon was fairly easy. I did have to fiddle with it a bit to get the cover and margins to fit within the guidelines, but overall the process took me less than 2 hours. Waiting for the book to be approved and go live took about 3 days of nail-biting tension, but I didn’t have any issues that del

Interview with Author Ynes Freeman
Over the past week, I have had the pleasure of interviewing Ynes Freeman, author and co-founder of 2 small publishing companies: Balance of Seven Press and Memento Vivere Press. It was my honor to be published alongside Ynes in the Dragons Within: Embracing Her Fire anthology from Balance of Seven Press, and have been involved in another project with Ynes that has not yet been publicly released. So I was thrilled when my fellow author, respected publisher and - dare I say fri

A Little Flavor
Along with my unending love of fairy tales, I also adore mythology and urban legends. I graduated quickly from The Pokey Little Puppy to Aesop’s Fables and never looked back. My interest in anything with a fantasy flair evolved from there. Dungeons and Dragons, magical realism, high fantasy, low fantasy, urban fantasy, science fiction fantasy - I love it all. But what attracts me to these stories more than contemporary fiction, historical, thriller novels and adventure tale
